Spectroscopy Scrabble

This is a game to practice predicting spectra from the structure of a compound (IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR).  Students build structures on the board with the random bond and atom pieces they draw.  They then draw a card that tells them which spectroscopy they need to predict.  Correct predictions earn points. Please contact Anja Mueller (muell1a@cmich.edu) for any copyright questions.

Abstract:

Students are expected to learn numerous reactions and develop problem solving skills in order to succeed in organic chemistry courses. I have created an interactive website with problems for students to practice as they learn reactions. The website is freely accessible (no login required) and gives immediate feedback to student users. The only requirement for the application to work is that JavaScript must be enabled on the user’s browser.

Spectral Zoo

Description:

This site provides numerous combined spectral problems (IR and NMR) for students to practice as they learn to interpret spectra.  The spectra are displayed using a Java applet which enables zooming on the spectra to examine splitting and determine positions of signals.

WebSpectra

Description:

This UCLA site provides chemistry students with a library of spectroscopy problems. This site provides 1H NMR and 13C NMR, DEPT, COSY and IR spectra of various compounds for students to interpret.
