Extraction Animation
Posted by Laurie Starkey on Saturday, 10 February 2018
Description:
This interactive simulation explores the process of extracting three times with ether, as one might do for a typical reaction work-up. After using the simulation, students will be able to sketch and label the apparatus used, describe the theory of extraction and partitioning, explain the reason for doing multiple extractions, provide a step-by-step extraction procedure, and explain the purpose of each step taken once the extraction is complete (e.g., wash, dry, remove ether). A worksheet is provided to guide the students' inquiry, and to enable helpful note-taking.
